God Really Cares For You

Today, I want to preach the message, “God is committed to your well-being.” We’re now in Talk 3 of our mind-bending series, Dear Prodigals, our study on the Book of Deuteronomy.

Today, we’re spotlighting five chapters of Deuteronomy, specifically, chapters 12 to 16. If at the start of the book, Professor Moses gave a History class, in this section, he gives a Worship Seminar. And believe me, you’ll be baffled at what Deuteronomy considers worship.

But before we read the rules of worship, I think we should remind ourselves of the reason for these laws…

After talking about a few laws for worship, Moses says, “If you carefully obey the commands I am giving you today, and if you love the Lord your God and serve him with all your heart and soul, then he will send the rains in their proper seasons—the early and late rains—so you can bring in your harvests of grain, new wine, and olive oil. He will give you lush pasture land for your livestock, and you yourselves will have all you want to eat…. Be careful to obey all my commands, so that all will go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and pleasing to the LORD your God.” (Deuteronomy 11:12-15, 12:28 NLT)

God is committed to your well-being.

If you go back to Genesis, and back to the first day of creation, this was already His original plan. God wanted to live with us in Eden, to eat from the Tree of Life, to enjoy His abundance.

Why is He giving us Laws? God wants to bring us back to the Garden.

If He didn’t care for us, He would have said, “Hey, do whatever. Be greedy. Be proud. Be lustful. Be selfish. I don’t care.”

Listen. God is committed to your well-being, not your comfort. Because 100% of the time, you’ll have to go through suffering to achieve your well-being. And part of that suffering is following God’s commands.

Because at various times, God’s commands are difficult to obey.

We ask, “Why should I love my toxic neighbor?” and “Why should I say no to a juicy deal that will make me filthy rich at the expense of others?” and “Why should I go to church when I can sleep in and watch Netflix?”

But if you’re able to go through the discomfort, God’s end goal happens—your well-being.

Have an awesome Feast today!

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez
