When You Get Insulted, What Do You Do?

Have you watched Spiderman?

I’m old enough to have watched three versions: Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. Especially in the first two versions, before Peter Parker was bitten by the spider, he was bullied by his classmates.

But one day, Peter got super-spider strength, and boy oh boy, it was exciting to see him meet his bullies again. Peter defended himself and those bullies were thrashed by their own doing. I don’t know about you, but I felt an inner satisfaction when I saw those mean guys humiliated.

Which makes our message today very problematic: Jesus said that when people shame us, belittle us, insult us, we’re supposed to give up our pride, rights, and comfort.WHAT?!#@**???

Disturbing, right? Let’s dive in and find out what He wants us to do.

Have a fresh out powering at the Feast today!

May your dreams come true, Bo Sanchez,

Talk's Scripture Reference: Matthew 5: 38-41 NLT

“You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles.”

Exodus 21: 23-25 NLT

“But if there is further injury, the punishment must match the injury: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot, a burn for a burn, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.”

Luke 17: 33 ESV

“Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.”

Luke 9: 23 NIV

"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

1 Peter 3: 9 NLT

“Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.”

Galatians 6: 9 NLT

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Have you allowed your injured pride to destroy your relationships?

When people hurt you, when were the times you gave up your pride, rights, and comfort?
